Academic and Student Affairs Building

Virginia Polytechnic Institute

Blacksburg, VA

Virginia Tech’s new Academic and Student Affairs Building is a mixed-use facility that relieves two existing pressures on the university’s facilities.  A full-service dining facility in the academic core of the campus serves the high demand for easy access to lunch between classes and seven new classrooms help ease the burden on the registrar’s office for scheduling classes.

Dining services, which are located on the lower two levels of the three-level facility and designed by Mesher Shing McNutt, include eight distinct venues and a full-service kitchen.  Outdoor gathering spaces connect to the dining areas on both levels.  Offices for student services share the third floor with the classrooms.  As the most public building in its campus neighborhood, the Academic and Student Affairs Building conveys openness and connectivity through its site planning, form, and exterior architectural expression.
