Faced with major renovations at four aging elementary schools, South Butler County School District needed a plan to consolidate and upgrade its elementary school system. Under the banner of educational appropriateness and fiscal responsibility, a new facility was designed to meet the community's needs and assuage any fears related to closing the four existing schools.
Guided by feedback from the community and staff, Burt Hill designed a new one-story facility to house 750 kindergarten through third grade students and administrative offices for district personnel. The design included residential and commercial building motifs, as well as historical references from the area, to create a fun and dynamic space for students. A geothermal heating and cooling system dramatically reduced utility costs.
