Sited at the campus entrance, the new parking and retail facility at Saint Joseph’s University serves as a “gateway” to the school. The design team worked closely with the university to develop a design that appealed to users and related well to the architectural style of the campus. The first floor and street frontage of the six-story building house a restaurant, coffee shop, and the university bookstore, while the remaining floors provide 442 parking spaces. Glass stairwells provide access and offer increased security. By using precast concrete, the design team was able to control costs (both initial and maintenance) and shorten the project timeline.
The project also included upgrading the streetscape in front of the building with new paving, street lighting, and trees.
