Middle East Broadcasting Networks Inc.
Springfield, VA
9,000 square feet
Radio Sawa is a U.S. government initiative providing 24-hour broadcasting throughout the Middle East to over 250 million listeners. The two-story facility, a design / build effort with Kfoury Construction, contains ten broadcasting studios, a 14-rack tech center, and offices and workstations for 60+ employees / reporters. The primary studios are located on the second floor with views to the newsroom, which houses 30 open workstations situated to take advantage of existing perimeter windows. Smaller studios are located in the high-bay space on the first floor, along with another 24 workstations and the broadcast technology core. Private offices line the window wall of the first floor.
Due to intense security requirements and spatial constraints, the lobby is modest with an emphasis on security and access control. The glass enclosed lounge space at the entrance offers a visual point of interest and acts as a counterbalance to the two-story compound curved wall.
