Due to curriculum changes, the need for more community spaces, and the introduction of a full-day kindergarten program, the school district needed to modify and enlarge the existing elementary school building.  Phasing was critical as the students were not able to be relocated.  As a result, an independently supported pre-cast second floor was constructed over an existing classroom wing to accommodate the increased program and homeroom needs.  The second floor addition also permitted separate areas on the site to be designed for bus and parent drop-off, paved and grass play areas, and convenient service access points, eliminating previous unsafe and hazardous conditions.

The interior is designed to meet the district's desires to use the building as a teaching tool.  The main entrance corridor reflects the storefronts of a typical small town main street, and the large group gathering space in the kindergarten area is reminiscent of a train station around which many rural towns were established.  Complete replacement of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and telecommunications systems were also part of the renovation enhancements.
