Mount Nittany Medical Center commissioned Burt Hill to provide complete master facility planning, architectural design, and construction administration services on a continuous basis. We were charged with responding to their strategic plan to expand and modernize the facility. The focus of the facility plan was to: expand and replace the intensive care unit; expand the bed complement; reduce multiple bedrooms; expand Mount Nittany's surgery capacity and emergency care; develop a comprehensive education center; and enhance the center's same-day surgery offerings and GI program. Burt Hill worked with the staff through an extensive series of user group meetings and collaborated with a national healthcare facility equipment planner to address these various needs.
The plan called for new inpatient rooms; a new 12-bed ICU unit; an academic teaching facility and conference center; new surgical facilities; and other associated departments. Also included in the project were major building infrastructure upgrades.
