Media Arts Building

Keene State College

Keene, NH

27,500 square feet

The college's former Dining Commons was converted into a temporary Media Arts Center for film studies, graphic design, and communications / journalism.  By joining the three formerly dispersed departments at the heart of the campus, the college sought to create a "creativity incubator" to foster synergy and cross-pollination among disciplines, attract and encourage interaction and idea exchange among students and faculty, and forge a distinctive and unique identity for the program.  The design provides for a cohesive and vibrant media arts program, with specialized facilities including television studios, editing rooms for sound and film, audio and video recording rooms, and broadcasting and critiquing spaces.  In addition, specialized classrooms, offices, and labs were created to meet each department's teaching mission.  Common areas are designed to maximize creative interactions and display student work.
