As part of a long-term strategy to bolster and expand research, Virginia Tech added a state-of-the-art laboratory, teaching, and research space to its campus. The facility includes BSL 2 research laboratories, classrooms, administrative offices, and common use rooms for specialized multi-user functions, in addition to office workspaces for research faculty and postdoctoral appointments. The laboratories support the cutting edge of applied and fundamental research in several multidisciplinary areas, including bioengineering, biomaterials, nanotechnology, communications technology, and sensor technology. The institute supports interdisciplinary research teams in targeted areas to bolster the economic development of the state. Burt Hill worked in association with Pei Cobb Freed & Partners.
