Central Pennsylvania's Harrisburg University of Science and Technology, one of the few completely new campuses in the US, was seeking to build a technology-driven campus that promotes economic development in the region and produces a technically literate workforce. The university focuses primarily on science and mathematics, information technology, computer science, bioinformatics technology, and operations research.
The master plan divides the campus into four distinct areas including an academic center, business incubator, student village, and corporate office complex. The unique design integrates a modern academic environment with a distinct identity, lively urban streetscapes, and public spaces. The university's education space is housed in a 16-story high-rise. The academic floors are joined with intercommunicating stairs and two-story atriums. A 125-seat auditorium and outdoor roof garden serve the university as well as the greater Harrisburg community.
Burt Hill's innovative design of Harrisburg University of Science and Technology is pioneering the evolution of the typical college campus.
