Hampton Roads and Eastern Shore Student Housing

George Mason University

Fairfax, VA

195,000 square feet

The Hampton Roads and Eastern Shore student housing facilities help alleviate an increased demand for on-campus housing at George Mason University.  Located in the northeast sector of the campus, the project consists of two dormitory buildings and a dining venue.  The Hampton Roads building features cluster living arrangements consisting of 408 student beds and supporting commons.  The Eastern Shore building boasts affiliated / community living consisting of 192 beds and supporting commons.  Attached to Hampton Roads, at a pivotal node of the site, is a 120-seat dining venue.

The project is slated for LEED Silver Certification, and great care was taken to preserve the site and enhance the park-like setting already established by the wooded areas to the south.  A newly created quad offers recreation opportunities and includes an outdoor terrace, generous landscaping, and a bio-garden to reduce run off.
