Facing a housing shortage and antiquated housing buildings, SUNY Cortland, through the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York, engaged Burt Hill and Ashley McGraw Architects to create the first new dormitory on campus in 32 years. Glass Tower Hall serves to connect two 1950s-era dormitories and formally create the residential quad that had previously been open at both ends. The LEED certified, four-story dormitory provides housing for nearly 200 students in two- and four-person junior suites, and features four floors of glass enclosed student lounges. Particular attention was paid to the surrounding architecture in order to fully integrate the new building into the campus.
