The Fayez S. Sarofim Research Building is home to the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine (IMM) for the Prevention of Human Diseases, which provides a flexible, inspiring, and environmentally sensitive venue for research collaboration in the field of molecular medicine.  Burt Hill, in association with architect of record BNIM Architects, provided planning, programming, and design services for the laboratories and played an integral role in all phases of the project design.  The goal of the project was to provide an environment that encourages group interaction.

In addition to intricate lab modules, sustainable design strategies were an important part of the overall process and were incorporated into the building structure, use of water and natural lighting, cascading use of conditioned air, HVAC, and lighting control systems.

This $84.4 million project serves as an excellent example of the future of medical research facilities.
