Eastern Michigan University Student Center
Eastern Michigan University
Ypsilanti, MI
180,000 square feet
Eastern Michigan University wanted to build a new student center on its campus in a convenient location, near major parking lots, recreational facilities, the library, residence halls, and the academic center. The school aimed to bring various aspects of student life to one central location. Burt Hill designed the all-inclusive student center to encourage students to become involved on campus.
The new student center takes advantage of existing pedestrian pathways to become a "street" of student activity, a place where students can obtain information, dine with one another, participate in student organizations, relax in lounges, attend campus-related meetings, and play recreational games. The center features a 24-hour computer lab, bookstore, game room, food court, 250-seat auditorium, and various university and student organization offices.
