Carthage College Student Center

Carthage College

Kenosha, WI

34,000 square feet

Carthage College a private liberal arts and sciences college, is converting an existing natatorium building on its Kenosha,Wisconsin, campus into a new student center.  The 13,200-square-foot Seidemann Building was constructed in 1973 and originally used as an aquatic center.  Since 2001, the two-story, brick and stone building has been abandoned and used only for miscellaneous storage.  Burt Hill is designing a renovation and addition that will convert the building into a student center.

Conceptually, the college has asked for a flexible, welcoming center that will serve as the major campus destination and meeting place for students.  The new facility will contain five new food service venues, a campus living room, a media tower, a new book store and a two hundred-seat THX multipurpose auditorium.  The outdoor terrace will provide unparalleled views of the adjacent football stadium.
