Alex Wing

Principal

Alex is a principal in Burt Hill’s Butler office and a leader in the firm’s science and technology group. He participated in the development of the EPA’s sustainable design guidelines for lab buildings, and his work on sustainable design in laboratories has been presented at a number of conferences. An expert in space utilization, he has led the development of our “programming by analysis” process. This innovative approach combines traditional programming and master planning techniques with visual models of space utilization patterns. Applied to higher education, the systems allow teams to visualize and discuss the relationship between learning environment demands and projected enrollment and curriculum trends.  Alex helped develop a similar system to allow for dynamic analysis of medical facilities demands for our healthcare practice.  A LEED accredited registered architect, Alex holds a bachelor’s degree in architecture from the University of Virginia, a master’s in community economic development from Southern New Hampshire University, and a master’s in architecture from Syracuse University.
